Puppy Vaccination
Schedule
8 weeks of age
1st DHLP & PARVO VACCINATION:
This vaccination helps prevent Disptemper, Canine Hepatitis,
Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus
9-12 weeks of age
12-16 weeks
16 weeks of age
16weeks to 6 months of age
If you start your puppy's vaccinations at 6
weeks of age, it should have a total of four (4) DHLP-PARVO
vaccinations in the initial series. The doctors also
recommend that Doberman, Rotweiler and German Shepherd puppies
should have their last DHLP-PARVO vaccination of the series at or
after 20 weeks of age. In general, vaccinations within a
series should be given 3 to 4 weeks apart to avoid having to start
the series over.
EVEN IF YOUR PUPPY HAS HAD ONE OR TWO
VACCINATIONS, IT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN TO ANY PARKS OR PUBLIC PLACES
WHERE OTHER DOGS WALK OR PLAY. IF EXPOSED, THEY ARE STILL
SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE VIRUSES THE VACCINATIONS ULTIMATELY
PREVENT.
The 1st Rabies vaccination given
(regardless of age) lasts for 1 year. The boosters last for 3
years. It is required that ALL dogs in Douglas County be
licensed at 6 months of age and a valid rabies vaccination is
required to do that.
DHLP & PARVO vaccinations should be
repeated every year.
Worming
Schedule
Start at age of 6 weeks and treat for
round worms until 16 weeks of age. Best way to stay on
track is to worm each time they have a vaccination. Then
every six months after that, unless you notice worms in their
fecal. If ever a question, please ask your
veterinarian.
Flea
Treatment
May start treating for fleas @ 8 weeks of
age with either Advantage or Frontline. In our climate,
flea and tick control is a year round issue.
